ABOUT US

Tōnui Collab* Charitable Trust (CC58901)  provides specialist STEMM education opportunities for learners of Tairāwhiti.  Young people are empowered to experiment and explore the diversity of STEMM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Mātauranga Māori** - through innovative workshops and wānanga using tools such as animation, engineering, 3D design, robotics, coding, virtual reality, game development, augmented reality and more! Workshops and Wānanga are facilitated in both reo Māori and English.

Our core philosophy celebrates learning through exploration, learning through fast fails, and collaborative problem solving. We encourage inquiry, investigation and creative experimentation. We strive to build confidence through new ways of learning and collaborating.

TŌNUI Collab collaborates with teachers to support the impactful adoption of digital technologies. Through professional learning and development partnerships, teachers are supported in developing the confidence to introduce emerging technologies into contemporary learning environments.

The Tōnui Collab team has experience and expertise across the education and tech sectors and are passionate and committed to creating engaging learning experiences for our rangatahi. We also strive to empower educators across our community - in the classroom, out on the waka, on the marae, in the taiao - to collaborate and to enhance opportunities for our rangatahi.

In the past five years Tōnui Collab have created over 2500 unique STEMM learning opportunities that have enabled over 47000 tamariki and rangatahi o Te Tairāwhiti to explore, create and thrive with STEM.

*Tōnui means to be prosperous, prolific, productive, flourishing, thriving, successful. The name, Tōnui Collab, was chosen to signal to our community that the STEMM learning opportunities we create and facilitate are designed to enable learners to thrive collaboratively. The name, Tōnui Collab, is also a commitment by the team to actively seek collaboration for the betterment of the next generation of
STEMM leaders.

**The addition of Mātauranga Māori to STEMM is fundamental to the work of Tōnui Collab. Mātauranga Māori is the knowledge and comprehension of everything that has, does and will ever exist in the universe (Hikuroa, 2017). Mātauranga Māori spans Māori knowledge, culture, values, and world view and provides the foundation for how we as Māori interact and understand the tangible and non-tangible elements of the universe.
